Cross country completes successful season at South RegionalsPublished by
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Lipscomb cross country squad closed out its season on Friday morning at the NCAA South Regionals in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The men’s squad earned their best-ever finish at the Regionals, placing sixth out of a field of 24 teams that included three nationally-ranked schools and 11 regionally-ranked programs. The Bisons finished with 189 total points, 10 points ahead of seventh-place Auburn. Seniors Juan Gonzalez and Jacob Poyner led the way in the final races of their decorated careers with the Bisons. Gonzalez placed 26th with a time of 31:41.5, and Poyner finished close behind in 28th with a 31:46.1 mark. Freshman Silas Griffith closed out his successful first campaign in the Purple and Gold with a 39th place spot and a time of 32:06.6. Sophomores William Kachman (32:34.3), Chase Hampton (32:34.7), and Zach Israel (32:43.4) took the next three spots for the Bisons at 57th, 58th, and 64th. The women’s squad placed 16th out of 31 teams. The field included two nationally-ranked teams and 14 regionally-ranked teams. Freshman Lauren Flynt led the Lady Bisons with a time of 21:13.5 to place 47th. This was only the second time all season that Flynt was Lipscomb’s top runner. Senior Katie Sperry earned the Bisons second-best time in her final race, placing 86th with a time of 21:46.4. Sophomore Kailey Schuyler (21:53.4) and seniors Avery Franklin (22:02.2) and Kacey Kemper (22:11.7) closed out Lipscomb’s top five spots in 97th, 105th, and 117th.
