Cross country heads to Alabama for NCAA South Regional

Comments

NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb cross country squads are trekking down to Tuscaloosa, Alabama this weekend to race in the NCAA South Regionals.

The women are set to begin at 9 a.m. on Friday at the Harry Pritchett Running Park, while the men will begin at 10.

The men are coming off of their fourth ASUN Championship in the past five seasons, while the women placed second, ending their conference record six-year ASUN championship streak.

Jacob Poyner won the individual ASUN title for the men, the first in program history, and is poised to lead the squad at the South Regionals.

Both groups will be taking on stout competition at the meet.

On the men’s side, Alabama, Middle Tennessee, and Ole Miss are all ranked nationally, while 11 other squads are ranked regionally. For the women, Georgia and Ole Miss are ranked in the national poll, and 14 other teams are ranked in the regional polls.

The men enter the weekend ranked ninth in the regional poll, while the women are 12th.

Last season at the South Regionals, the women’s squad placed in ninth, while the men finished 13th.
