Relive top moments from 2020 ASUN Track and Field season

ATLANTA, Ga. - Highlighting the 2020 ASUN Conference Men's Track and Field season, the league office announced its top moments from the 2019-20 academic year among the ASUN's five programs. The top moments cover accomplishments on and off the track.

During the 2020 Indoor Season, one athlete qualified for the 2020 Indoor NCAA Track and Field Championships in Albuquerque, N.M., seven ASUN Indoor Championship meet records were broken and 17 athletes ranked within the NCAA Top-100 performance lists during the 2020 season. 

Highlighting the 2020 ASUN Conference Women's Track and Field season, the league office announced its top moments from the 2019-20 academic year among the ASUN's six programs. The top moments cover accomplishments on and off the track. 

During the 2020 Indoor Season, one athlete qualified for the 2020 Indoor NCAA Track and Field Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico, 9 Indoor ASUN Championship meet records were broken and 16 athletes ranked within the Top-100 in the NCAA during the 2020 season. 

 


Top Moments from the 2020 ASUN Men's Track and Field Season
- Liberty's Brant Tolsma won his 116th Conference championship to end his 34-season career as the Flames' Head Track and Field Coach.

- Christian Lyon of Liberty won the 60m, 200m, 4x400m Relay to be named the Championship Most Outstanding Track Performer. 

- Lyon also broke the Liberty school record, facility record, ASUN Championship record and ASUN record with his time of 20.99 in the 200m at the 2020 Indoor Championship.

- Liberty's Kyle Mitchell (19.16), Kennesaw State's Tyler Blalock (18.31), Kennesaw State's Tanner Duffin (18.27) and Liberty's Jose Ballivian (17.98) all eclipsed the previous ASUN Championship record set in 2019 for the Shot Put. 

- Jovaine Atkinson became the first student-athlete from Liberty to earn the ASUN Conference Men's Indoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Lipscomb's Jonathan Schwind successfully defending his 800m Title with an time of 1.51:87 at the 2020 ASUN Track and Field Championship. 

- Jacob Leigh of NJIT was dubbed the freshman and track performer of the week after a strong performance at the St. Thomas Aquinas Invitational, bringing the Highlanders their first ASUN Freshman of the Week honor. 

- NJIT's Jacob Leigh, Matt Bacchi, Eugene Graves III and Ryan Budhu claimed 4th place in the 4x400m relay at the 113th Millrose Games

- Paris Williams of Kennesaw State ran a 60m Hurdle time of 7.72 at the Clemson Invitational which qualified him for NCAA Indoor Nationals as that time ranked 12th in the NCAA This year.

- Kennesaw State's Williams also was named to the USTFCCCA All-American for the 2020 Indoor Track and Field season after he qualified for the NCAA Championship. 

- Tanner Duffin (18.33m) and Tyler Blalock (18.17m) both broke the Kennesaw State Program record in the Shot Put at the Clemson Invitational

- North Florida's George Escobar broke the Ospreys' program record in the 400m at the USC Indoor Open with a time of 48.05.

- The Ospreys' Jassiel Torres successfully defended his ASUN Conference title in the High Jump at the 2020 Indoor ASUN Track and Field Championships with a jump of 2.09m. 

 

Top Moments from the 2020 ASUN Women's Track and Field Season's
- Liberty's Brant Tolsma won his 116th Conference championship to end his 34-season career as the Flames Head Track and Field Coach.

- Tanner Ealum of Liberty won her final collegiate 800m race as she PR'd with a time of 2:06.64 at the 2020 Indoor ASUN Track and Field Championship.

Lipscomb's Courtney Brenner was named the ASUN Most Outstanding Track Performer of the Meet for the second year in a row after she defended both the 3000m (9:32.23) and 5000m (16:40.69) titles at the Indoor ASUN Track and Field Championship.

- Brenner was also named the ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second year in a row with a 4.00 GPA as a Dietetics Major becoming the first Bison and second ASUN athlete ever to do so. 

- NJIT's Miku Okada captured the Highlanders' first-ever Field Athlete of the Week honor after her performance in the High Jump (1st; 1.60m)  at the St. Thomas Aquinas Invitational.

- Kennesaw State's Olivia Brown was named the 2020 Indoor ASUN Track and Field Championship Most Outstanding Freshman Performer after she won the 60m Hurdles with a time of 8.55.

- North Florida's Louisa Washburn captured the 2020 Indoor ASUN Pole Vault title in record-breaking fashion as she set a new ASUN Championship meet record of 3.96m.

- Jacksonville's Savyon Toombs ranked 14th in the NCAA this season after her time of 23.23 in the 200 Meter at the BU Scarlet and White Invite which qualified her for the 2020 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship.

- Jacksonville's Toombs earned USTFCCCA Honors as she was named to the 2020 Indoor Track and Field All-American list for qualifying for the NCAA Championship in the 200 Meter.

- Sarah Hendrick of Kennesaw State ran a time of 2:06.48 in the 800 Meter at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University which ranked 34th in the NCAA This Season and first in the ASUN.

- Sade Meeks of Jacksonville set school records in both the Shot Put (15.09m) and Weight Throw (20.67m) at the USC Indoor Open with her Weight Throw ranking 25th in the NCAA This season as well as breaking the South Carolina Facility Record.
