Bisons Rewind: Women's Cross Country begins a dynasty

Comments

NASHVILLE - On October 29, 2011 a dynasty began.

The Lipscomb women’s cross country team was crowned ASUN champion for the first time on that day. Starting with that first title, they have now won eight of the last nine ASUN championship meets.

The Lady Bisons compiled 53 points, putting them 16 clear of second-place finisher and defending champions North Florida. Lipscomb had seven of the top 21 runners in the 78-person race.

Two Lady Bisons earned spots on the All-Conference First Team. Tessa Hoefle was Lipscomb’s top individual runner, placing fifth with a time of 17:58.30. Teammate Ashley Lehman nearly crossed the finish line at the same time, taking sixth with a 17:58.40 mark.

Minna Fields placed ninth (18:04.50) to notch both Second-Team All-Conference and All-Freshman honors, while Missy Dowd (18:14.60) and Maggie Lawrence (18:16.60) finished 16th and 17th to join Fields on the All-Freshman team.

Following that first breakthrough at the ASUN stage, the Lady Bisons would go on to win the conference title in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, and 2019, an ASUN record for most titles.

The men would soon embark on a championship run of their own, taking home the trophy in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, and 2019.
