Track & field lands eight on All-Academic Team, Brenner named top Scholar-Athlete

Comments

ATLANTA - The Lipscomb track and field squad added several more honors to the 2020 trophy case on Thursday afternoon as eight Bisons were named to the ASUN Indoor All-Academic Team.

Courtney Brenner was named the women’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive year. The senior compiled a perfect 4.0 GPA as a Dietetics major to earn her third consecutive indoor All-Academic honor and sixth overall, with two for outdoor and one for cross country.

The California native has had a stellar indoor campaign this season. Last week, she was voted the ASUN’s Most Outstanding Female Track Performer after winning back-to-back conference titles in both the 3000m and the 5000m, setting an ASUN record in the former.

Joining Brenner on the women’s All-Academic squad were Lauren Flynt and Grace Oetting. Oetting, a senior Business Administration major, also compiled a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Flynt, a junior Nursing major, earned a 3.77 GPA. This was the first track and field All-Academic nod for both, while Flynt was named the Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year in the fall.

On the men’s side, Lipscomb had five of the 12 honorees: Ahmed Amaar, Brent Leber, Grant Mason, Jacob Snyder, and Zach Israel, the first four of which were unanimously voted on.

Amaar, a junior Management major, sports a 3.86 GPA. This is his second indoor All-Academic nod after making the team in 2018 and third overall, thanks to one outdoor nod.

Leber owns a 3.96 GPA as an Exercise Science major. This is the junior’s first track All-Academic nod, but he was named the Scholar-Athlete of the Year for cross country in the fall.

Mason has a 3.57 GPA as a Management major. This is the junior’s first nod for indoor, but he was named an outdoor All-Academic honoree last season.

Snyder earns his first All-Academic nod thanks to a 3.94 GPA as a Molecular Biology major. Israel takes home his third All-Academic honor, but first for indoor after nods for outdoor and cross country in 2019. The senior has a 3.45 GPA as a Finance major.

The track and field squad will start the outdoor season on March 20 in Atlanta at the Emory/Georgia Tech Invitational.
