Poyner named Scholar-Athlete of the Year for cross countryPublished by
LakePoint, Ga. – Three Lipscomb student-athletes were named to the ASUN Cross Country All-Academic Team on Thursday, including senior Jacob Poyner who was voted the Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Poyner earned a perfect 4.0 GPA for the Bisons in the classroom as an Exercise Science major to earn the first-ever Scholar-Athlete of the Year award for the men’s program. Outside of the classroom, Poyner has also been the Bisons top performer this year. He won the individual ASUN Championship and helped the men’s team to their fourth title in five years thanks to a first-place time of 24:02.2. This was Poyner’s first All-Academic honor for cross country. He had two previous nominations for indoor and outdoor track last season. On the women’s side, Kacey Kemper and Bridgette Doucet were named to the All-Academic squad for the second year in a row. Kemper compiled a perfect 4.0 GPA as a biology major. The senior recently finished second overall in the induvial competition at the ASUN Championship to earn a First-Team All-Conference spot. In addition to her two cross country All-Academic nods, she has earned four for track: two for indoor and two for outdoor. Doucet accumulated a perfect 4.0 GPA as well. The Special Education major finished just outside of the All-Conference placings at the ASUN Championship in 19th.
